Tere Coats, MD, FACP Associate Professor — University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Tere Coats, MD, FACP, joined the University of Texas Physicians’ internal medicine practice in 2008. Dr. Coats received her medical degree from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX, and then completed her residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. A native Texan, Dr. Coats was eager to return to Austin following her residency in New York. Since establishing her private practice in Austin in the late 1980s, Dr. Coats has treated thousands of patients. Additionally, she has had an active career training the next generation of doctors through her role as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Texas Southwestern. Dr. Coats is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, The Texas Medical Association and the Travis County Medical Association. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors of the Quality Care Network through 2007. She has published several articles on topics related to her area of practice. In her spare time, Dr. Coats practices yoga, plays clarinet, and enjoys skiing and scuba diving. |

Jadranko Corak, MD, FACP Assistant Professor – University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Assistant Professor – University of Texas Medical Branch Austin Programs Jadranko Corak, MD, FACP, specializes in internal medicine and maintaining the health of your entire family. In 1997, Dr. Corak started his residency with the Central Texas Medical Foundation (now University of Texas Medical Branch Austin Programs) at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge. After completing his residency, Dr. Corak served as the Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine Program from 2000 to 2001. Dr. Corak attended the Medical School of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and completed an internal medicine residency at University Clinical Center in Sarajevo from 1987-1994. Dr. Corak was the senior research scientist at the UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Simmons Cancer Center. Dr. Corak has received a variety of honors and awards, including being named Teacher of the Year in the Internal Medicine Program at the Austin Medical Education Programs. He also serves as Co-Director of the UMC Brackenridge’s Coumadin Clinic. He enjoys living in such a family-friendly, cultural city like Austin. Dr. Corak spends a lot of time with his wife and children enjoying the outdoors. When he’s not working, you can find him running, playing basketball, traveling or enjoying photography. |

Amy LaViolette, MD Faculty Member – University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Amy LaViolette, MD, grew up in Austin and is glad to be home. She attended Austin College in Sherman, TX, then attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and then couldn't keep away from her hometown. She returned to Austin where she completed her residency in internal medicine. Dr. LaViolette stayed with the residency program to complete an additional year as chief resident. When she's not working, you'll find Dr. LaViolette spending time with her husband, Dreux. She also enjoys travelling, watching movies and crocheting/knitting. |

Chase Maxwell, MD Faculty Member – University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Chase Maxwell, MD, attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed his residency in internal medicine at Brown University. Dr. Maxwell enjoys Austin’s warm weather and green spaces as well as the city’s love of the arts and the community’s diversity. Beth Miller, MD Faculty Member – University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Beth Miller, MD, Program Director and Chief of Internal Medicine for the University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs, has been teaching residents in the internal medicine program since 1987. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Dr. Miller spent an additional year in Chapel Hill as the chief resident. Dr. Miller has been committed to the care of patients in Austin for several years. Her awards and involvement in the medical community include Austin Monthly Magazine’s Best Doctors of Austin List 2004, Teacher of the Year – Internal Medicine, Austin Medical Education Programs and Education Chair for the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. Dr. Miller has two sons. In her free time, she enjoys running around Lake Lady Bird, gardening and singing. |

Michael Williams, MD Faculty Member – University of Texas Southwestern Austin Programs Since 1999, Dr. Michael Williams has dedicated his medical expertise to the care of patients in Central Texas. Dr. Williams has also been based at the United States Air Force Hospital at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed his residency at Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Williams is married with four grown children who are used to finding him enjoying his spare time playing golf, cooking, reading or operating his ham radio. |
